The Ritz Theatre in Sunset Park, whose name still adorns the top of this building on the corner of Eighth Avenue and 46th Street, opened in 1926, but by 1960 it had already been converted into a supermarket. It's still a supermarket. "It was a dirty last-run house," writes
a commenter on Cinema Treasures. "There usually was a rowdy crowd, and a noisy one too… Local residents used to call this theater 'The Ratz.'"
