What Would Your Dream Bar Be Like?

Favorite drink: Gin and tonic
It'd be more like a restaurant than a bar, but it'd still be a beer and shot place. It would have a Hungarian theme, since I am from Hungary. We'd serve Hungarian food, which is really heavy, but that's good because then you can drink more. There would be Hungarian decorations and a dance floor. We'd have live music some nights, more classical stuff for slower ballroom dancing. Actually, change that. I want a gypsy band playing gypsy music so we can all dance like gypsies.

This is my bar, so my dream bar would be like this. Actually, this is my parents' bar; they started it about 43 years ago. Our last name is Kenny, and my dad named it this because he felt like a castaway from Ireland. All the decoration in here is stuff we've accumulated since we've been open. We have a lot of nautical stuff since my dad was into that, and a lot of antiques. Over here is an old drinking horn that my dad used to fill with beer on holidays, then he'd pass it around and everyone would have a sip.

I've actually dreamt about this a lot. It'd be in Brooklyn somewhere, but I haven't decided on which neighborhood. There would be a lot of bourbon and beer there. It'd be a dive bar. Yes, a dive bar. We'd serve some bar food, and sometimes we'd have live music, but mostly it'd just be a place for people to come and hang out. This isn't just daydreaming; I am planning on opening a place.

Favorite drink: Margarita
I would make sure there's a good ratio between customer space and service space. I hate being in the way, hate people being in my way. I'd want it to be comfortable, like with couches, not too dark, I hate it when bars are too dark. And a staff-controlled iPod. No DJs! No jukebox. I wouldn't want customers to control the music. I'd want it to feel like Tuesday night all the time, you know, like with regulars. Tuesday night's my favorite night to go out, when there are no obnoxious crowds. I could call the bar Tuesdays.
