The best concert experience we’ve ever had was in Madrid, when a friend of ours (a Madrilleno musician) led us to an afterhours flamenco bar where all the greats regularly gather, from 3am to dawn, to perform in a way that can only be compared to a hip-hop freestyle battle. No kidding, it was great.

I don’t usually go to them, but once I went to one called ‘Copacabana’. I’m Latin, of course, so I go to salsa concerts. It’s cool because all these groups play, all these Spanish groups. You wouldn’t know them, but they’re well known in the Spanish community. The concerts are cool because they play and you can just dance on the floor.

God, I haven’t been to a concert in 20 years. I guess the last one I went to was Jimmy Buffet. The worst one I ever went to was called Round Up, in Philadelphia. I was in high school. It was sort of a mini-Woodstock. It was terrible. It was outside and it rained the whole time. Me and my friends were just there in the rain for ten hours. All I remember about it was the mud and the booze. I guess if I could remember more I’d have some stories.

One time my cousin and I went to an Oasis concert. This was in Scotland, around 2001 or 2002. We were in the middle of the crowd, we had a few drinks, and I needed to pee. I didn’t want to leave, though, because it would take me so long to get back that I’d miss half the set. So I took a beer can off the ground and peed into it. No one noticed, they were all looking at the stage. So I set it down, and my cousin picks it up. He’s getting set to drink it when I notice and tell him its full of pee. He’s like, ‘what?’ and just hurled it into the crowd. I have no idea if it hit anyone. I have no idea why he did it, he just hurled a cup of pee. It was wrong on all levels.

Oh my god, that’s impossible — I’m 57, so I’ve been to them all. I would have to say the best show I ever went to was Janis Joplin. Actually, I can’t say that. I was at Woodstock, so, there you go — top that. [Was Woodstock really everything everyone remembers it being?] It was even better.

My best recent concert memory was Joe Strummer at Roseland, five or six years ago. Prince put on a great show in Ireland about 20 years ago. It was the Love Sexy tour — I saw him in Cork. It was great.
