My parents were in town the other night, so we took them to our favorite Italian restaurant, Piccolo Angolo (621 Hudson St) where we all gleefully consumed a truckload of carbs. The dessert menus came out and before we could say “No, grazie,” my husband (who’s one-quarter Italian) informed us that his people had a special trick to make room for the final course. To a rapt audience, he revealed, “You just unbutton your pants.”
Great advice, but you might also consider having a light, liquid dessert like the Blueberry Cobbler Cocktail. Incorporating the last blueberries of the season, it’s the perfect drink to cap off the Downtown Chef’s Heirloom Tomato Lasagna. Muddle 15 blueberries, a lime wedge and 1½ teaspoons of sugar in a cocktail shaker. Add ice, 1½ ounces of gin and shake well. Strain into an ice-filled glass, top with club soda and garnish with blueberries.
