Who’s Afraid of Ornament?

Mondays, Thursdays-Sundays. Continues through May 29 2010

In an art world increasingly focused exclusively on the slick, minimal and conceptual, the ornament is a seldom seen subject of scorn, with its emphasis on the sensual perceived as some appeal to the most base aesthetic tastes, which is basically a weird regression to the classicism of old that conceptual art was trying to get away from. How did that happen? Curator Natasha Kurchanova throws conceptualism to the wind in this group show of artists who take lush and colorful motifs and symbols to extremes.
