Thanks to a light-speed jump from Bandcamp page to Best New Music, it's possible that Trevor Powers and his Youth Lagoon project will soon encounter some pretty serious backlash. But so far, so good, as he plays his second sold-out-Bowery-affiliated show this week. And for good reason: His album, The Year of Hibernation, deviates from the emotionless, anticlimactic synth-pop formula in exchange for songs that slowly blossom to the point of exhilaration. His live show, meanwhile, displays both his maturity as a songwriter and endearing youthful energy, occasionally featuring shout-outs to his Grandma for buying him his keyboard.
