Coming to a Museum Multiplex Near You…

Following that logic, today is like Memorial Day weekend in museum world, with two shows opening their galleries to swarms of summer tourists: Frank Lloyd Wright: From Within Outward at the Guggenheim (through August 23) and Avedon Fashion: 1944-2000 at the International Center of Photography (through September 6).

Both chronicle epic careers of Modern American masters who redefined the media each worked in (architecture for Frank Lloyd Wright, fashion photography for Richard Avedon, whose work appears at right). I suggest seeing these shows early rather than leaving them until the last minute, especially the Wright show, which will probably require multiple visits. You can get the Avedon exhibition off your checklist today, in fact, because the ICP is by donation every Friday from 5pm to 8pm.
