Merge XX kicked off last night, with performances by Pure, Lou Barlow, The Clientele, Magnetic Fields, The Rosebuds, and Conor Oberst & The Mystic Valley Band. Of those six performances, I saw zero.
About three hours after arriving in North Carolina, we were on our way to meet some friends at a bar across from the Cat’s Cradle, when my wife fell down some stairs. Then we spent eight hours in an emergency room. Now her fifth metatarsal is shattered and she’s on crutches.
I did get to watch a late-night Golden Girls marathon, which was nice. There was this one episode where Rose, who had just been promoted to Associate Producer of a local news show, asked Dorothy and Blanch to appear on a segment about women who live together. It turned out it was supposed to be about lesbians, so there were lots of funny jokes about that, obviously.
Then we went back to the hotel to eat Doritos, drink tall boys, and mutter repeatedly, “AT LEAST NEUTRAL MILK HOTEL DIDN’T PLAY.”
sex, drugs and rock and roll.
