The 39 Steps closes on Broadway

The Broadway production of The 39 Steps, a comedy about a man mistaken for a spy then whisked into pursuit of the titular secret society in order to clear his name adapted by Patrick Barlow from the 1915 John Buchan novel and the extremely enjoyable 1935 Alfred Hitchcock film of the same name, will end its run on January 10, by which time it will have been the longest-running play (ie. non-musical) on Broadway in the last 7 years. ArtsBeat calculates by then it will have been performed some 771 times at three different Broadway theaters. After closing here the show goes on the road, to Seattle and New Haven, while the London production, now in its third year, continues.
