After announcing last month that the gallery would have exclusive rights to represent the estate of Dan Flavin, David Zwirner is mounting its first exhibition of works by the neon-loving New York minimalist who died in 1996. The show, Series and Progressions, opens at DZ’s West 19th Street complex in Chelsea on November 5, and according to Artdaily was curated by Tiffany Bell and is structured around Flavin’s use of repetition, sequences and recurring shapes.
The centerpiece of the massive show will be a piece Flavin created for his first solo museum show in 1967 at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago titled “alternating pink and gold” (pictured). Series and Progressions continues through December 23 and will basically be the largest retrospective of Flavin’s work presented in New York in over 10 years—that means you must not miss it.
