As I blogged about back when the original casting call went out, Bravo and Sarah Jessica Parker‘s production company Pretty Matches are working on a reality TV series in the America’s Next Top Model, um, model, but for contemporary artists. Now, Artdaily reports that the show will be called “Work of Art: The Next Great Artist” (yawn), and though no air date has been set for the first episode of the one-hour series, hosts and judges have been named, and the lineup is rather impressive. Model, actor and art world fixture China Chow will co-host with auction house overlord Simon de Pury, while the panel of judges will consist of New York art critic Jerry Saltz, and New York gallery-owners Bill Powers of Half Gallery and Jeanne Greenberg Rohatyn of Salon 94. There will be an additional guest judge, who will change every week.

The series is set to begin with 14 artists and work its way down to one winner through a series of assignments and projects in every conceivable medium, with the last artist hanging receiving a big cash prize and an exhibition at a major museum. I can’t wait to see what torturous catch-phrase they come up with for eliminated artists: “Kitsch your dreams goodbye,” or maybe “Get back to the drawing board.”
