Another nice antidote to the Tonys, the 2010 Obie Awards, were handed out last night at Webster Hall. The season’s biggest winners included playwright Annie Baker (Best New American Play, for two plays?), whose Circle Mirror Transformation at Playwrights Horizons and The Aliens at the Rattlestick have won her critical praise (both were directed by Sam Gold, who got a directing award), and David Greenspan getting the Sustained Achievement Award for a really amazing season that’s included Coraline, a revival of his solo show The Myopia (pictured), playing Athena in Rescue Me and, currently co-starring with Billy Crudup in Adam Rapp’s Metal Children at the Vineyard (review coming soon)—did I miss any? Other performer prizes went to Juliet Rylance for As You Like It at BAM and Laurie Metcalf for the New Group’s A Lie of the Mind. And, just for good measure, the Ohio Theater got a special citation for still existing, but not for much longer. BroadwayWorld has a list of all the winners.
