After a recent delivery of “almost a million pounds of Rooflite Intensive, an engineered soil mix that contains no actual soil” covered by the Times, the Brooklyn Grange Rooftop Farm, which is actually in Queens (37-18 Northern Boulevard in Long Island City, to be exact), looks like the beautiful sixth-floor pasture pictured at right. The massive urban farm project, from the folks who own and operate beloved locavore pizzeria Roberta’s in Bushwick, will eventually be run as a for-profit agricultural business, selling their products from a stand on-site, and to local restaurants. You can read more about the project (and see more pictures), on their Kickstarter page—where, btw, they are just over halfway to their goal of raising $20,000, if you have some extra cash lying around. Between this and the Eagle Street Rooftop Farm in Greenpoint, the Newtown Creek-adjacent area is turning into New York’s (rather toxic) Midwest. (Brownstoner)
