Kick a Frenchman Today: It’s Cinco De Mayo

Not that you’d know it from the Google logo, but today, the fifth of May, we celebrate General Ignacio Zaragoza Seguín’s victory over French forces at the Battle of Puebla, in 1862.

Cinco de Mayo is in fact celebrated more in America (and elsewhere) abroad than in Mexico itself—for actual Mexican Mexicans, it’s actually not that big a deal. Oh what egg on the faces of local cops, then, when their coordinated sweep of Macayo’s locations throughout Arizona only turns up frat kids swigging frozen margaritas out of sombrero-shaped mugs.
