That doesn’t apply to Passion Pit because every show is celebratory.

Kip: I’m still bummed we can’t wear sweaters. We can’t, right?
Peggy: I probably wear shorts 90% of the summer. Maybe a better question for me would be “Cargo shorts on stage: Yes or No.” Then I’d be kind of torn.
Will you alter your set at all to account for the more celebratory vibe of an outdoor show?
Kip: We’re into celebratory vibes regardless! Matt + Kim have it right!
Peggy: Yeah, we might cut out a sentimental ballad or two and talk in between songs more. Especially if there are any wastoids in the crowd.

What’s the best outdoor show you’ve ever seen?
Hugh Masekela, World Trade Center, August 2001. On an amazingly beautiful day, just like the more famous one a couple of weeks later,I rode the ferry over from Hoboken with my brother Danny, had a couple of whiskies at a bar, then watched one of the greatest living humans play some of the greatest music ever created, while the sun set over New Jersey.
What’s your vote for Summer Jam of 2010?
Summer Jam of 2010 is definitely gonna be “Wrong Things” from the album Holy Hell by Noun, Marissa Paternoster from the Screaming Females’ other project.
What’s your vote for Summer Jam of all time?
Toss up between BDP’s “T’cha T’cha,” and Gorilla Biscuits’ “Forgotten.” Both always bring me back strongly to the summer of ’88, which was pretty much the last summer I had that was an actual normal summer of working, going to shows in the city, going to parties at the shore, and just hanging out.

For many many years, I’d have said no shorts EVER, let alone on stage, but I’m settling into the idea of a crusty pair of cut-off black jeans being acceptable from time to time—even on stage.
Will you alter your set at all to account for the more celebratory vibe of an outdoor show?
In theory—depending on the show—yes, I will consider playing what it feels right to play; but even our most serious songs, I think, are only ENHANCED by the beauty and the celebration of living that an outdoor summer show can bring.
