Summer Streets Dumpster Pools

Following the Summer Streets program’s success last summer, the city will be once again shutting down a continuous stretch of Manhattan streets from the Brooklyn Bridge to Central Park on the first three Saturdays in August (7st, 14th and 21st, fyi), but this year a Brooklyn-bred import will make a splash: Dumpster Pools! Remember last summer’s invitation-only pool parties in Gowanus around refashioned dumpsters by MacroSea made over into pools that almost nobody actually got to see? Now they’re coming to the east side of Park Avenue between 40th and 41st Streets near Grand Central, and would-be swimmers will get bracelets for specific time slots handed out on a first-come, first-served basis. The three dumpster pools will be be open from 7am to 1pm, so lap swimmers will want to get there early before the kiddies take over. (NYTimes)
