Kevin Morrissey, managing editor of the much-admired literary journal, Virginia Quarterly Review, shot himself on Saturday morning. Suicide—that most terrible, true shorthand for the hopelessness we all sometimes feel—is always a sad thing.
I didn’t know Kevin Morrissey, but I admired his work, and the no-doubt often thankless effort he must’ve put into bringing good stories to the world. This is important work, disseminating the stories we tell about ourselves, and the world is worse-off for Morrissey’s death.
Condolences to those he loved, and who loved him.
