Word comes today that Kevin Devine, a NYC-based songwriter who’s always been somewhat unfairly associated with the dregs of the emo scene, has a new project called Bad Books, which also features Andy Hull from the Atlanta band Manchester Orchestra. Their self-titled first full-length is out on October 19th via Favorite Gentlemen Recordings, and it includes five songs written each of them, with full-band support from the rest of Manchester Orchestra. The first sample track, “You Wouldn’t Have to Ask,” is currently streaming on the band’s Facebook page. Think Nada Surf, Fountains of Wayne, and maybe some of the more straightforward of the old Elephant 6 bands. They’re playing Bowery Ballroom on October 20th, and the presale starts tomorrow at noon.
