Next month, despite opposition from conservative curators, Japanese Pop art star Takashi Murakami will open a solo exhibition at Versailles outside Paris. Murakami will be the third contemporary artist given access to the former seat of French monarchy, following Jeff Koons in 2008 and Xavier Veilhan in 2009. Slamxhype’s got a preview of the exhibition (September 13-December 12), which will feature 22 pieces, half of which were created especially for the occasion, including sculptures, lamps (pictured), and one painting, one video and one carpet. I wonder where they’ll put the Louis Vuitton handbag store… (DesignYouTrust)
