The above footage of an auxillary rocket booster falling back into the atmosphere, taken during NASA’s spring ’08 mission STS-124, flown by the shuttle Atlantis to deliver a new Japanese module to the International Space Station, is incredibly beautiful and surprisingly powerful. (The existential leg of the journey starts around 1:54.) It’s like a mashup of Kubrick’s 2001 and Michael Snow’s “La Région Centrale” (1971). We’re so small! (TheDailyWhat)
