B.o.B Drops Last-Minute Mixtape of the Year Contender No Genre

B.o.B No Genre

Until very early this morning it looked like J. Cole’s Friday Night Lights from mid-November would remain at the top of 2010’s rap mixtape heap, and then B.o.B dropped No Genre. As the title suggests, musically it’s all over the place, but tied together by Bobby Ray’s Southern twang and distinctive instrumental sensibilities. Some of the songs have been floating around the internet for months, others are brand new. Prominent samples include Tupac’s “All Eyes On Me,” Foreigner’s “Cold as Ice,” and Santigold on what might be the tape’s best track, “Shoot Up the Station”:
