Turns out June 13th was correct. That’s the day the new East River Ferry will launch its service connecting Dumbo, North and South Williamsburg, Greenpoint and Long Island City to Lower and Midtown Manhattan. For the first eleven days it will even be free, and we can all live like kings Staten Islanders.
DNAinfo reports that beginning June 25 the regular fare structure will take effect, with single rides going for $4, unlimited day passes for $12, and monthly passes for $140.
Over on the ferry’s website, we learn that weekday service will run from 7am to 8:30pm, and weekend service from 9am to 8pm. At peak hours, 7am-9:30am and 4:30pm-7pm, ferries will run every 20 minutes all year round. During off-peak hours in the summer (April 1-October 31), ferries will come every 30 minutes (35 minutes on weekends), and during the winter off-peak hours and weekends boats will come every hour.
In the meantime, though, the best thing about this inaugural free service is that now we know how we’ll all be getting from Coco 66 to Music Hall of Williamsburg during Northside.
