Thanks to everyone who came out to UnionDocs during Northside this past weekend, to sample the offerings at our first annual DIY Film Competition. We’re pleased now to announce the winners and runners-up in both the feature and short categories.

The features were voted on by audiences, and the shorts by our panel of judges: Rosie Perez, Ted Hope, Todd P, Patricia Swinney Kaufman, Rajendra Roy. The winners will screen at Rooftop Films on July 1st, and the filmmakers will also receive a camera rental package from DCTV. Runner-up filmmakers receive passes to IFP’s Independent Film Week. And the winners are…

Feature: Echotone, Nathan Christ’s study of music and urban development in Austin.

Short: Daud, director Joel Fendelman’s portrait of a devout preteen in contemporary Brooklyn.

And the runners-up…

Feature: Bad Fever, directed by Dustin Guy Defa, and starring Kentucker Audley as the world’s most painfully awkward aspiring standup comic.

Short: Jeannie, directed by Olivia Jampol, concerning hide-and-seek as coming-of-age metaphor.

Congratulations to all the filmmakers, thanks to you and the jury and everyone at UnionDocs. And by all means feel free to check out Echotone and Daud and Rooftop Films in a couple weeks.
