Update: Curbed reports that section 2 of the High Line has opened a day early, and is now receiving its first visitors.

Two years and two days ago, the first section of the High Line opened, winding its way above the Meatpacking District and West Chelsea, and tomorrow its second section will open, stretching between West 20th Street and West 30th Street. At that northern tip a new public plaza, “The Lot,” will host an installation of 40 inflatable forms and figures by Miami-based artist-designer duo FriendsWithYou called Rainbow City, which was a hit last year at Art Basel Miami.

The final installation will look something like the above, except with an old elevated train track and concrete instead of trees and grass. A tipster sent Curbed the image at top, which shows the bulbous figures already rising at The Lot, presumably in preparation for tomorrow’s opening celebrations and the many exclusive events that have preceded it. (FriendsWithYou also inaugurates the new location of The Hole on Friday night.) The High Line’s Phase 3, meanwhile, looks very unlikely to open in another two years and two days.
