For years 148 North 8th Street in Williamsburg has been empty—or squatted—its façade doubling as a self-curating street art gallery. But recently a zoning variance for the property was approved, paving the way for the old brick warehouse to be converted into a karate studio and, befitting its new identity, some martial art-themed street art (“martial street art”?) has taken over the entire two-story building.
What’s that in the upper-right hand corner? Yes, a psychedelic dragon wrestling with a cat amidst clouds of cotton candy-looking smoke. That’s one way to make sure your mural goes viral. Well played.
