The Art Fag City Wienerfest and Fundraiser

  • The Art Fag City Wienerfest and Fundraiser

Fuck Art Basel. This week, we’ve got a forty-two swing installation, some fresh talent, and the best wienerfest you will ever attend.

Ongoing: Ann Hamilton, the event of a thread, Park Avenue Armory

If you thought Ann Hamilton was uptight—what with the austere architectural installations, and monk robe-looking fabrics—think again. She’s installed 42 swings and a big white curtain in the Armory. That’s all we ever needed.

Lecture: Sharon Matt Atkins, NURTUREart

Brooklyn Museum curator and GO program co-organizer Sharon Matt Atkins will be giving a lecture at NURTUREart. As she’s responsible for one of the largest, most inclusive community-driven exhibitions New York has ever seen, she should have a lot of useful info for young curators and emerging art spaces.

Opening: Henry Darger Landscapes, Ricco Maresca Gallery

Everybody loves Darger’s creepy little naked kids. We do. A show of his landscapes for his 15,000 page saga “The Story of the Vivian Girls” will go on view at Ricco Maresca in Chelsea.

Sunday, December 16th

It’s the most wonderful time of the year. That’s right: December means the Art Fag City Wienerfest. Our blog fundraiser will take place at Postmasters, with art-inspired wieners of all shapes and sizes. We’re raffling off this ceramic bubbler, which is reason enough to go. But best of all, half of your tax-deductible ticket will got to Smack Mellon, one of Hurricane Sandy’s hardest-hit art spaces in Brooklyn. So come stuff your face with wieners, beer, and a whole lotta vodka for a good cause. Mmmm.
