This weekend marks the opening of Florida-born and Brooklyn-based artist Mike Taylor’s first solo exhibition in New York, NO/FUTURE, at Booklyn (37 Greenpoint Ave., 4th Fl., nr. West St.). The show will kick off with an opening reception and book launch for his three new publications, created exclusively for the exhibit, starting at 7pm on January 18.

Taylor works in a variety of mediums and NO/FUTURE will feature many bright, kaleidoscopic screen printings, drawings, paintings, comics and editorial illustrations from his twenty-year career, which started when he self-published his first zines at age 13. His most popular work is his Late Era Crash zine, whose latest issue offers satirical commentary on the less savory aspects of the art world.
According to Taylor, NO/FUTURE is a “long narrative about rock ‘n’ roll, generational identity and manufactured memory,” that will ask attendees, “What aspects of your life and culture right now will be nullified by popular history?” Look for images of Bill Clinton (including one where he sports Kurt Cobain hair) and an overall dissection of 1990s culture and politics.
NO/FUTURE will run through March 30 and can be viewed Thursday through Tuesday from 12pm to 5pm at the Booklyn gallery.
