It’s your weekly roundup of parties and shenanigans to ensure you are completely unrested come Monday morning! But, lucky us, we can be even LESS rested than usual because, incase you missed it, Christmas is next week! I for one know I’ll be away hanging with family and doing lots of eating and, admittedly, sleeping (gasp! What else is there really to do in Ohio though?) so we need to get all of the party out of our systems STAT. “Doctor, proceed with the emergency party extraction surgery. I’m aware of the risks.” Have a safe weekend, a happy holiday, and see you freaks at New Years!
Lead us into the darkness (of the weekend):
No-Tech: DJ Ning Nong // Ciarra Black // J.r. Nelson
Over the Eight (Williamsburg)
Thursday Dec 18, 10 PM, Free
Vibe: The No-Tech parties have been around for about a year now and always brings the dark, moody techno vibes hard. We’re not totally sure about Over the Eight itself (We vaguely remember being there in the midst of a blackout once), but this party will be fun even if the venue isn’t ideal.
Miami freak heat and Brooklyn techno royalty:
Cyborgs: Aurora Halal // Night Plane // Uchi // Malory // Keith Tano
Verboten (Williamsburg)
Thursday Dec 18, 10 PM, $15
Vibe: Aurora Halal is a Brooklyn techno icon. She’s behind the label Mutual Dreaming, Sustain Release and has been involved with Bossa Nova since the very beginning. Oh, and obviously, she’s a killer fucking DJ. She’s heading up this show with her psychedelic techno, along with some Miami cyborgesque flavor from Uchi, so it’s definitely going to be awesome. Also, kind of unrelated, but we somehow JUST found out how good the food is at Verboten? I mean, Verboten is far from our favorite Brooklyn venue, but finding this out has definitely moved Verboten up a little tiny notch in our books. We might not sleep, but we definitely eat.
A.Pop’s new thang:
Stay Up: KAI ALCÉ // Stefan Ringer // FBI Warning (Live) // Turtle Bugg // Abraham Othwell
Secret Location (Brooklyn)
Friday Dec 19, 11 PM, $15- $20
Vibe: A.Pop is one of the aesthetic masterminds responsible for the awesome and endearingly lecherous immersive-experience themes of the RINSED parties. Stay Up is a brand new thing she’s doing and it’s sure to be just as weird, if not weirder. Oh, and the theme for this one is balloons. “Balloon, you must obey me and be good…,” says the event. Lets get weird.
Vibing with bosses:
Numenon: Dogs Dream w/ Vereker // Masahiro Ueda // Poor Sport // Slam Skillet // Snacs
Palisades (Bushwick)
Friday Dec 19, Midnight, $10
Vibe: Numenon parties always brings a tight mix of sound. This time around, we’re especially excited for Masahiro Ueda, which Time Out has called a “Japanese techno boss,” and we definitely wouldn’t contest. And residents Slam Skillet and Snacs are definitely also bosses in their own right. Even though Palisades is kind of an odd little space (weird shape, weird set up), every time we go we always seem to find good vibes and good times.
If God was a synthesizer in a spaceship traveling at light speed:
Inhalants (L.I.E.S. records) // Transients (Mark Dwinell + Nathan Cearley // Mike Sheffield + Malory Butler // Mind Dynamics
The Silent Barn (Bushwick)
Saturday Dec 20, 8 PM, $8
Vibe: This will be a really awesome live techno party. Inhalants, which has released on L.I.E.S. (techno’s current “it” label) is sure to bring tons of gear, so expect lots of button pushing and knob turning and there will also be live visuals by Ginny Benson and DJ Molly Smith. So yeah, expect to have a ton of cool shit to look at while you’re getting dancey.
Late late late:
Closed Circuit: Jared Wilson (Live) // Madteo // Ital (Live) // Volvox // Scallywag & Blacklauren // R Gamble // Personator
Secret Location (Brooklyn)
Saturday Dec 20, 10 PM $15
Vibe: Recently, there’s been this lovely revival of medium-sized loft parties. We’re not talking the huge warehouse blowouts like Shade and we’re definitely not talking house party vibes, but somewhere nice in between. This is one of those. Lots of amazing DJs playing, so expect a nice spectrum of sound. Also, it’ll probably go until at least 6 for after hours vibes, so don’t forget your sunglasses, kids!
