SPA TREATMENTS
Wellness isn’t just about torturing our bodies, of course, it’s also about treating them nicely. Obvious? Maybe. And yet, all too often, we default into not taking the time to care for ourselves in the way we really ought to. But no more! Here’s where we’ll be heading in the new year when we need to pamper ourselves a little. Or a lot.

Treatment by Lanshin
This holistic wellness center in Williamsburg offers everything from massage to Chinese herbal therapy to acupuncture to ortho-bionomy, and thus it’s hard to really encapsulate everything done at Lanshin by using the word “spa.” The key thing about a visit to Lanshin is that you will leave feeling more connected with your body than you ever have before, because that is ultimately their mission—to help you achieve that ever elusive mind, body, spirit balance that we all seek.

Massage Williamsburg
Simply one of the best massage centers in Brooklyn, Massage Williamsburg has highly trained therapists who use therapeutic techniques to do everything for their clients from stress-reduction to pain-relief. Which, uh, we could use some of both pretty badly right now, tbh.

Brooklyn Banya
Though self-described as being “not a luxury spa,” Brooklyn Banya will still leave you feeling relaxed and radiant upon leaving. There’s a sauna, steam room, pool, and the option to have a platska treatment (aka getting whipped with birch leaves). Plus, there’s an onsite restaurant serving some of the best Russian food in Brooklyn. And you can get all this for one $35 all-day pass. (Platska is $30 extra, but worth it!)

BEST BROOKLYN WELLNESS SHOPS
While there are obviously plenty of places to go and get pampered, we encourage you to bring the wellness home with you. Here’s where we go to stock up on herbs, essential oils, and all that good stuff.

Brooklyn Herborium
Started by two Brooklyn women, the Brooklyn Herborium has a holistic philosophy and sells everything from essential oils to herbal steaming mists to mineral-infused ointments. But even better than just selling all this stuff, the staff is able to educate customers as to why these things are so good for you. There’s also an amazing in-house brand, Between You and the Moon, and the spot offers beauty treatments like facials and phytotherapy.

Herb Shoppe
This Atlantic Avenue spot offers “traditional medicine for modern times,” and you can buy herbs there (duh), but also have consultations with doctors (yes, real doctors) in order to find a more natural path to cure whatever ails you. This is definitely the place to go to buy healing herbs and spices in bulk. 394 Atlantic Avenue, Boerum Hill

Remedies Herb Shop
This little Court Street shop is a haven for all those who seek alternative therapies. It has everything from balms and salves to healing flower essences and bulk bins of roots, herbs, and spices. We also recommend buying mixes for tea here, we’re particularly fond of the Chill Out blend. We need it. We really do.
