The beautiful, carefree life of the Northside volunteer.

  • The beautiful, carefree life of the Northside volunteer.

The Northside Festival is less than a fortnight away, and boy are we excited? Yes, we are. And from the looks of ticket sales, you guys are too—early bird-badges are sold out, and advanced badges are going just as fast. But we wanna let you in on a little secret—you can hang out with us at the Northside Festival, with your very own badge, for freesies. Just become a volunteer! Each volunteer gets a free badge ($70 value) in exchange for three four-hour shifts of work throughout the four days of the festival. Volunteers will be needed June 15-19.

What’s Northside and why should I volunteer?
Northside is a four-day festival that takes over venues, studios, and the streets of Williamsburg and Greenpoint. This year has four components: music, film, art, and ideas. Mainly, volunteers are responsible for managing the door at every show to make sure that the proper number of badgeholders is allowed inside each venue, but trust us when we say there are about a gazillion other positions available. If you’re into art, come help out at Northside Open Studios. If the cinema is more your thing, we’d love to see you at our Film Festival at indieScreen (did we mention Rosie Perez will be there?). Volunteers can also be in charge of helping out at Northside headquarters, assembling giftbags, and stocking green rooms for bands. Oh, volunteering also guarantees that you’ll have an awesome time at the festival and be part of something amazing. Guaranteed!

Some volunteers from past festivals have cultivated relationships with us and gone on to be L Mag interns, writers, and collaborators with us on other events. We want to open the same doors for you!

What does a badge get me?
Your badge will grant you access on a first-come, first-served basis to every show taking place during the festival, in addition to all Northside ideas, art and film events. You’ll also be able to walk into tons of local bars and restaurants that will be offering discounts to badge holders on food and booze.

How do I sign up?
Please send an email with your name, age, dates and times you’d be available (if you don’t know that’s just fine), and what aspect of the festival you’re interested in helping out with to northsidevolunteers@thelmagazine.com. We will review your application and get back to you regarding the dates of our orientation sessions.

Please let us know if you’ve volunteered with us before. Veterans are always welcome!

See you in a couple weeks!

A few weeks ago you and I and the rest of Brooklyn attended the second installment of Audiophile, our Spring concert Series at the Brooklyn museum, featuring a night of free Brooklyn Republic Vodka and music from MEN and Savoir Adore. Not only do we have photos of all the pretty people at the event, but we have this amazing video as well! The next and final installment of Audiophile takes place on June 10 and features the beautifully behatted Theophilus London. Until then, Brooklyn.

This past Friday, we put on our dancin’ shoes and dancin’ ponchos (because we have them) for the second installment of Audiophile, our spring concert series at the Brooklyn Museum. It should come as a surprise to exactly no one who’s ever been to one of our events, or to any event, really, that an extraordinary amount of vodka (compliments of Brooklyn Republic Vodka) was consumed. Savoir Adore kicked off the evening and MEN brought it home. You should have been there; hopefully you were. Definitely don’t miss the next one, on 6/10, with Theophilus London. Check out our facebook for the full schedule of bands.

Tonight, join us at the Brooklyn Museum for the second of our three-part concert series Audiophile. We’re kicking things off tonight at 7pm with the lovable indie-pop songs of Savoir Adore then MEN will get everybody moving with their sharp lyrics, big beats and infectious dance hooks. Don’t you love them? We do too. Come drink and dance and look at cool art with us!

And, if you’re of age, we’ll be serving up complimentary cocktails courtesy of Brooklyn Republic Vodka from 7 to 8 pm, making those 60 minutes truly the happiest hour on earth.

This event is free with museum admission. Check out the rest of the acts we have lined up at our facebook page.

Have a drink, take a peek, and get ready for some amazing music. See you there!

It’s been almost a fortnight since we hosted the first Audiophile, round 1 of our spring-fever’d concert series at The Brooklyn Museum. Guests sipped on Brooklyn Republic Vodka, bobbed their heads to New Villager, then crushed hard on MNDR. When you watch the video, you’re going to see how fun it was, and you’re going to ask your computer screen when the next concert is at this magical Prospect Heights venue. Well you’re in luck, because this computer screen has answers; come on down to our next Audiophile on May 13th to see MEN and Savoir Adore then again on June 10 for a performance from Theophilius London. Check out our facebook for more updates and maybe you’ll be in our next video. Dreams can come true.

New Villager brought down the house and MNDR set our ears on fire. You should have been there, don’t miss the next one. Check out our facebook for the full schedule of bands.
