This Wednesday, instead of sitting on a park bench and waiting for a bus to take you “somewhere,” do something useful; watch some incredible acting by Steve Buscemi with us. Our annual free movie series SummerScreen presented as part of the EPIX Movie Free-For-All series continues this Wednesday with the quirky comedy Ghost World. Come sit with us, enjoy a snack from Pizza Moto, V-Spot, Bark Hot Dogs, or Coolhaus, drink a beer from Six Point, and grab a free bag of Pop Chips and stop by the Vitamin Water tent for a sample or five.

Before the movie starts at sundown, enjoy a free musical performance from Widowspeak- a very awesome and well-sounding band chosen for us by the geniuses over at Free Williamsburg. There will also be boatloads of raffles and prizes; EPIX will be signing people up to win free iPad 2’s at their tent, and Film Biz Recycling and Parlour Brooklyn will both be raffling off prizes that would otherwise be very expensive. Come Wednesday to find out what you’re in for. Find one of our goregeous interns in a sea-foam green L Magazine shirt and give them your name to enter the drawing.

See you Wednesday, Mr. Buscemi. Happy Summer!

There we were, eating some empanadas and quoting “Asphinctersayswhat” to each other, when Hurrican Brooklyn hit right over SummerScreen, ruining our equipment and forcing us to party on next week. We will still be showing Wayne’s World on August 17th, same time, same McCarren Park. Excellent.

Next week we will resume SummerScreen with Ghost World starring Steve Buscemi and a very young, pre Ryan Reynolds Scarlett Johansson. See you next week!

Last week, we gave away $25 gift certificates to two lucky winners who are now likely turning heads with their fashionable purchases from Crossroads Trading. But this week, oh this week, we are giving away an entire briefcase full of items that look like they were spewed from the movie Wayne’s World itself. You can get your pad looking like Wayne & Garth’s basement with an old school suitcase full of faux wood paneling, a basement-ready radio, a plaid shirt, a guide to Chicago (band or city, we do not know), good tunes and your grandma’s old pillow, all courtesy of Brooklyn newcomers Film Biz Recycling.

Film Biz Recycling is a non-profit organization that rescues film props that may have otherwise ended up in a landfill, so thank you, Film Biz, for continuing the construction of basements like Wayne’s right here in our borough.

To win this lovely prize, find an L Mag staff member in a sea foam green t-shirt to give them your name and email to enter the raffle. Winners will be announced before the movie begins. SHA-WIIING!

We did it, everyone. We ate Vspot until we passed out, poured those delicious little Bengali Tiger cans of Sixpoint on ourselves until we woke up again, break-danced to Free Williamsburg’s band choice TECLA, then spent most of the night watching Ice Cube and Chris Tucker sing to each other from the comfort of the Red Bull Creation mobile hammock. If you missed it, check out our photos on facebook. It was awesome.

See you all next week when we screen Wayne’s World and again pass out from too many vegan treats. Until then…

We have been slowly sipping on warm, sweaty margaritas, munching on goat cheese crostini, and donning tank top after tank top on our thin, pale bodies for almost a year. Now, finally, we have a reason to do these activities outside and in public.
